Update 999 on any deterioration?
Its important when you dial 999 to ask for police then mountain rescue, not the ambulance service. This is counter-intuitive but the ambulance service and mountain rescue don't seem to interact and the 999 call handlers don't seem to be well versed in who to contact. Ambulance crews seem to use postcodes which work well in built up areas but not in remote locations where not many people live.
Also consider how you might call for help. What is the phone signal like, other options? If you can't get a phone signal, text will sometimes work even if no phone signal as it uses less bandwidth and can queue as signal strength modulates. Make sure you pre-register your number for this service - Emergency Services SMS Registration – Sterling Adventures (sterling-adventures.co.uk)
Make sure you carry a good whistle, SOS blasts ... ___ ...
Remote locations consider Garmin Inreach or similar.
VHF/UHF radio learn a little more about it, there are a lot of UK repeaters which will boost and retransmit your signal. Easy to store and have available in memory on most radio's we use. Could be an option with a little knowledge.
