Hi Richard,

160kg is quite heavy. Most large paragliders top out with an all up weight of about 150kg which is your naked weight plus about 20kg for your gear, clothes, paraglider, reserve, harness, etc.

New gear would probably cost around £5k. Second hand could be as little as £1k.

To get started you need to contact a school. Try Steve Hudson - http://d-f-c.co.uk/

You will need to complete your EP and CP training, check with Steve but probably around £1000-£1200.

Schools usually provide equipment for EP part. You may find after walking up several hills you get quite fit and can then better judge what glider will be best for you.

I started paragliding about 2.5yrs ago, with Steve. Initially training was about £1100. Bought 2 new gliders, probably spent around £6.5k on gear, lots of fuel and trips logged about 370hrs. Part of the journey here: https://chrisdervin0.wixsite.com/cp-plus.

Good luck
