Helicopter Working – 22nd March – 4th April
Dunscar Farm to Hollins Cross / Back Tor footpath
The NOTAM for this activity to move paving materials up to the main footpath along The Great Ridge has now been published, and covers a period between Monday 22nd March and Sunday 4th April.
Throughout this period there is the possibility of a helicopter operating, with underslung loads, below 500ft, shuttling between the Back Tor area and the west side of Castleton. The loading will be occurring either in or immediately adjacent to our usual Mam Tor, Treak Cliff and Longcliffe bottom landing field at Dunscar farm.
This field, as well as Treak Cliff and Longcliffe launches are closed throughout this period for lambing anyway, and pilots must not fly anywhere near the above route on days when helicopter operations are occurring. Even though the Mam Tor launch remains open during this period, if the helicopter is operating, flying the East face must be avoided when there exists any possibility of a landing being required in the Castleton area.
It is likely that the helicopter will actually be working on only a handful of days during this period, subject to suitable weather conditions, and after the work is completed the NOTAM will be cancelled. You can check its status and details here: NOTAM – H0979/21
