Skills when it gets busy
Keep a good look out at all times... build a mental picture of who is where
Try to anticipate what other pilots will do - if in doubt, steer clear
Give yourself and other pilots room to maneuver
Clear your turns before you start to make them
Who had right of way in the event of a collision is meaningless - everyone has a duty to avoid it
Coaches \ committee \ experienced pilots do notice where there is room for improvement, and may reach out to discuss. Please take this in the spirit it is meant - to improve your safety and skills
Fly safe
SO
If I think it is going to be a busy day I tend to launch early an get a feel for where the best lift is likely to cycle through. Try to move away from launch as soon as you can especially if you see lots of pilots arriving. Last weekend on Treak it was fairly easy to find better lift over on Mam or Longstone and avoid lingering over launch. If I do get caught in a busy area apart from red ribbons there are a few aggressive or very competitive pilots who I fly out of lift to avoid, I would rather go home in one piece. Its one thing to make a bad judgement call and injury yourself but not worth risking hurting another pilot. The other pilots I avoid are the ones who never move their neck to look around.
Key skills at any time but particularly for when it gets busy OBSERVATION, SITUATION AWARENESS, PLANNING
Observation - keep looking around you other pilots where are they, where are they going, how do they fly what have you noticed about them
Situational awareness - position relative to other pilots, the hill, possible hazard areas where you don't want to be, and places where do you want to be
Planning - thinking ahead to avoid getting boxed in, boxing others in, not getting too close giving yourself and others choices, making decisions and moves in plenty of time.
