Prizes:
The prizes are high value, desirable products, so I think they should definitely be spread around. I guess the simplest way would be to order them in value, something like
1st: Fairhaven Micro Alti,
2nd: Skydrop vario
3rd: Skybean vario
4th: Nova Concertina bag
5th MacPara Cockpit
Format:
As the comp is already started, it's probably quite important that we don't mess with the current format or rules too much. I think Steve's general proposals are good, so the only important issues now are rules we haven't yet agreed on or eventualities we haven't yet thought of.
Rules:
As I understand them, the current rules (see Steve's proposals earlier in this thread) are as follows:
Purpose: A friendly Peak District comp to encourage newer pilots to navigate and fly XC, unite the two clubs and commemorate Ben Morris.
Eligibility: All classes of hang glider or paraglider, solo and tandem. BHPA "P" rating (or "CP" under coaching) and current member of club managing the take-off site.
Flights: Must be between any two recognised (must be in the relevant site guide) DSC or PSA sites. Eligible flights must pass through 1km radius turnpoint cylinders centred on two recognised DSC of PSA launch points and are scored by the distance between those two points. Pilots do not necessarily have to take off from TP1, nor land at TP2, but must pass through both TP cylinders to score the distance between them.
Scoring: Each pilot's scores are added up and the contestant with the most points (up to a maximum of 20 flights) at the close of the season is the winner.
Rules: Eligible flights must not infringe airspace. Tandem flights score double. Weekend flights score double. Only one entry permitted per day. Flight evidence by tracklog. Pilots must submit their own flight and make their own claim. Any disputes will be ruled by DSC competitions officer.
A few thoughts:
1) Would a weekend tandem flight score quadruple?
2) We still need a cup - anyone have any ideas? Didn't Neil F donate a couple of trophies for the club to use a while back?
3) End date - I think having it running during the winter might actually make winter flying more fun/challenging (encourage PG pilots to explore the XC potential of wave) so I like the proposed 1st March end date.
4) Keeping it fair: It's probably not fair to exclude APs, but it's good to think of ways to protect this comp from being swamped by skygods, accessible to newbies and winnable by mere mortals. As Grouse says, the idea of a handicap would be good but hard to police and hard to find a fair criteria. If we ever did have such a system, I don't think "years since qualifying" would be anywhere near as relevant as "last year's XCL score". But to me a handicap system could easily turn a fun and simple "Numpty Cup" challenge into something a lot more complicated. What about only permitting flights NOT also entered in the national league?
5) Perhaps we should ask people to submit their Morris Minor Cup flights here on this forum thread rather than privately to Nuala. we could attach the IGC file and Nuala could collate them at her leisure and publish updates to the thread. Keeping it forum-based would help generate interest, provoke use of the new (rather quiet) forum and allow us all to see and discuss each other's flights. It would also allow some kind of ongoing debate to refine rules, and peer review of iffy entries, although it could encourage conflict if adjudication was seen as a free-for-all!

Can we make the site-to-site comp easier for people to submit flights to?
Part of the popularity of the Pennine loop league is that they just have to submit flights via the xcleague site and their loop league coordinator does the rest.
http://www.penninesoaringclub.org.uk/competitions/loop-league
Harder to manage with our site-to-site xc but perhaps worth a conversation with John S to see whether a tick box could be added to the league page to say "site-to-site" that pilots have to tick when they submit a flight they want included in the site-to-site comp, then provide a "site-to-site" view of the flights for whoever's coordinating it so that they could view all site-to-site flights at once, check that they're valid and check number of site-to-site flights per pilot?
Hey Grouse,
Its certainly worth asking John and I will do, the two problems that i see with that is,
1: the loop league does'nt require xcleague to do anything and for the coordinator its just a case of looking at the flight type and score.
2:some pilots dont use the league, would they be allowed to send them privatly?
In my opinion it is not to much to ask a pilot who chooses to take part in this event to send a email with the igc or kobo file with a brief descripton (the takeoff and the site they flew to/past) then we can check and score it.

For the Latest entries go to DSC web site. Cursor on Members area, click on Competitions then look down the page for Morris Minor XC Challenge and Leader board.
At the moment Chris Jackson is leading with two flights. love to where to and from and dates? if Chris has put them on the XC league we could have the fun of looking at the track logs?
weekend flights score x2 so i assume his flights were done on a weekend. Tandem flights score x2 so may be Tandem?
Scot Thornhill DSC Paragliding Comp. Officer I would like to see a more engaging comps page with maps and tracks links?
I've made a Google Earth KMZ file showing all the Peak District sites, so you can see all the cylinders, consider potential site-to-site flights and measure distances. Here's a screengrab zoomed in on the Mam Tor area.
You can then load a flight into Google Earth (GPSdump will save your flight as a KML if you ask it to), and view it in Google Earth against this sites overlay (or should that be underlay?) like I did here:
Feel free to download the attached file. It's called "Peak District Flying Sites.KMZ".
Thanks Ash that looks good, would like to point out that the picture does not show all the sites that are eligable to score, any DSC PSA site counts.
Steve happy to send you any or all of the tracklogs, would be happier to put them on the page but it will not allow that type of attachement as discuused yesterday iam trying to include a legend and a abbreviation for the sites to make it clearer now the "box has been added but going to need a lilttle more than 22hrs to get that sorted.
It may be more engaging to the membership if it were possible for everyone to log in easily and from their phones, although now I dont have a problem logging in on a laptop, to do so from a phone only allows you to view certain areas of the site, from what im hearing folk also have this problem from there laptops too!
Would like to know the page views for the comps page to find out if its not engaging or just never been contacted.
Scot.
It would be good to have video site guides to all the sites. PSA?
