Road closure reminder

just as reminder that the Camphill Lane road is closed from the hairpin end near Great Hucklow up to the Gliding Club. This is due to a landslip and is not due to be reopened until late 2025, or when they decide whose paying, or how to fix it. The recommended route to take is from the Plough Inn Hathersage through Abney Village as below:

Clearly 'weather dependant' but can I ask if it's possible to park up somewhere around Great Hucklow and walk along the road or is it shut to pedestrians also?

By 'walk' I'm obviously considering riding a certain single wheel vehicle 😉

Cheers,
Richard.

Thanks for a really useful lecture last night Ash.

Here's some info on polar curves and how we can read off minimum sink, best glide and so on, as well as the impact of flying in air that is moving either horizontally or vertically or both. Note that in diagram 7 for sinking air, the polar curve is shifted down the y axis (vertical velocity) to reflect the amount of sink rather than the intersection point being moved up the y axis. This seems a bit more intuitive to me.

Airlaw this Sun - woohoo!!

On the face of it this is a pretty dry subject, but get this stuff engrained and you can concentrate on finding thermals and enjoying your cross-countries, rather than wondering whether you're allowed to be there in the first place.

If you have one, please bring an airmap with you

See you Sun
