Hi all, new to the forum please be gentle! I am looking for some advise on getting into handgliding as I have always wanted to try it. A couple (few) questions: -
Is there a possibility of trying it before embarking on training etc? If so where, when and how?
What is the format of the training course? where would this be? How long is the training? And approx cost?
Sorry for all the questions. Any advise would be fantastic.
Thanks

Hi Paul!
Sorry to notice your message so late!
Some basic answers to your questions about training can be found here: https://www.bhpa.co.uk/sport/bhpa/learn_to_fly/
A taster day at a hang gliding school (like Steve's) is a really good way to find out more about what's involved and whether it's for you. Schools vary a bit in how much they charge, and they usually have the job of sorting you out with all the gear you need, so the overall cost of becoming a pilot depends a lot on what kit you end up with. Steve has linked to his website where you can see that his price for training to CP level (solo) is about £1100, and other schools charge similarly. Where you go for your training and how long it takes depends on where you live, how well the school supports your chosen discipline, your aptitude to flying and your time constraints.
Something else you can do is join us on a hill next time it's flyable. It might not be terribly exciting watching everyone else having fun when you're gagging to fly, but you learn a lot just being among experienced pilots and becoming familiar with the flying environment. If you want to meet up, or have any other questions, give me a call / email and I'll try and help you on your way into this amazing sport!

Speaking about newbies
I am after CP training (hang glider -hill an tow environment) ,with circa 10 h experience (mainly from the english school in Spain).
From this Wednesday I am DSC member , and I would like to try my skills in Peak District .
I have never had possibilities to fly in a club environment. Therefore if someone is planning to fly this weekend I will very appreciate any indications. Where, how and with whom?
Regards
