First Timing Flying in the Area (fairly new club pilot)

Hi,

I am new to the club, having learnt to paraglide in Dorset a couple of summers a go. I have only flown a few hours since getting my club pilot. This will be my first time paragliding in the area. Can someone recommend the best place to have a first flight for a while?
Hoping to get out ASAP - but will be waiting for a nice site and day, and hopefully a few other people out and about to give a few pointers.

Looking forward to flying again!

David

Hi David and welcome!
As you say, some sites are certainly better than others for beginners, but in paragliding so much depends on conditions that even a training hill can vary from benign to lethal depending on factors like wind strength and direction. Your greatest need at the moment is to meet up with some of our coaches (ideally on the hill) and tap into a bit of local wisdom.

Don't know where you live or how free your time is, but if you can afford it, I'd recommend coming out whenever it's flyable, get familiar with the sites and get to know a few names and faces. We're generally a friendly bunch, and people will usually be more than happy to help you - or point you towards a coach or two. Mam Tor and the surrounding area (Rushup Edge, Treak Cliff and Lord's Seat) frequently works well for low airtime pilots, so if your free time is limited, at least be sure to be out the next time it's flyable in that area!

Feel free to post further questions here or contact me at newmembers@derbyshiresoaringclub.org.uk or on 07859912922 if you'd rather. Look forward to flying with you!

I can do most weekend at the moment - is there a good way to work out the best site to go to on the day? I live in Sheffield so it is very easy for me to get out in to the Peak district. Just waiting for a good day but I'll be checking for all the weekend days coming!
