Hey,

it looks like i'm in a similar boat to a few others on here.

I passed my EP & CP in Spain in 2012 and managed about half a dozen hours shortly afterwards.  I left Spain at the end of 2012 and became a SCUBA instructor and I've never flown since.

I'm back in England now though and keen to get some air time in.  I've booked a refresher course with winch tows in July and trying to get some ground handling done at Wollaton Park. It would be nice to get some coaching and some air time on sites with few hazards and large enough landing zones to get my confidence back.

I'm also keen to be an active member of a club as none of my friends are interested in this awesome pastime 🙁 and keen to experience flying holidays.

I do have a couple of apps on my phone with the sites on and whether they're flyable but I'm not sure how accurate they are.

I'm in Sandiacre just off exit 25 of the M1 and happy to meet up with anybody that lives this way for a drink, some ground handling or car share to the sites to do a recce.

Here's me and if you see me around looking like a lost muppet then by all means say hello.

Karl

Hi Karl!
Thanks for the intro. As you say, there are quite a few of you in a similar situation. At the best of times most newbies find the transition from the school environment to the club rather daunting. So add to that a long lay-off, moving to a new area, joining a new club, etc. it's not surprising that such pilots feel particularly apprehensive. But what they all need is coaching: A helping hand and the watchful eye of experience to help the newbie make good solo decisions and develop the skills and currency that we all need to fly safely and well. The DSC has a number of active, approachable and experienced coaches whose role is to encourage new pilots and point them in the right direction.

So your main task is to come out and meet us! On any flyable day there'll be a bunch of us convened on the best hill for that wind direction, so get yourself up to meet us on a Derbyshire hill next time it's on. (Tomorrow?) You'll learn a lot, as well as getting to meet members and put names to faces. Feel free to email or phone me when you're next able to come out and I'll try and point you to where we'll all be and put you in touch with some local coaches.
